My approach is grounded in relational-cultural theory, which places emphasis on the development of relationships that are “mutually growth-fostering”. i.e., ones in which both parties feel that they matter. My aim is to create a therapeutic environment that resembles this type of relationship and to encourage you to develop these types of relationships in your personal life. Frequently, self-compassion practices and a willingness to set and maintain boundaries with others show up as key features of the work. I have found somatic awareness and mindfulness exercises to be an invaluable addition to thought work, and I frequently ask questions that facilitate a curiosity about and openness to bodily experiences.
I’m grateful to live in a time where work is being done to de-stigmatize mental health conditions, as they have long been a natural part of the human condition. Shame, self-judgement, and comparative thinking regarding inevitable inner experiences like anxiety and negative mood states are habits of mind that can be unlearned. My work aims to harness the power of awareness to intervene in these established pathways, and to re-wire the brain for self-compassion and social connection.
I'm so glad you are here! Reaching out for help is never easy, but there are new perspectives that can come from being willing to speak your struggles aloud to a caring professional. I invite you to see what this process holds for you. Please don't hesitate to call or email to schedule a free 30 minute consultation.
